Position:

BC Hydro is seeking one (1) Consultant to provide SAP EAM consulting services for the SAP Hazards Registry Project. This project includes the replication of BC Hydro’s Linear Assets from the Enterprise GIS (GE Smallworld) to SAP EAM. This is an initial Feasibility Analysis to get a better indication that the initiative is feasible.

Position Responsibilities:

Services to be delivered in relation to the Feasibility Analysis include but are not limited to the following:

– Design a Linear Asset structure or define alternative structures in SAP that will be linked with the GIS Assets in GE Smallworld

– Design Hazard Locations and link with the Linear Assets in SAP

– Integration between the existing GIS application (built on GE Smallworld) and SAP in for new assets to be created in both and updated in both

– Consider the potential migration path(s) to a new GIS application in the above scope of work

– Walkthrough of the different Asset Management and Hazard Registry scenarios that span the GIS application, SAP and Zone Awareness application (note: “Zone Awareness” is a custom tool built by BC Hydro on top of GE Smallworld that allows workers to view hazards on a map in their work area)

Key deliverables:

Feasibility Analysis

– The SAP Asset structure for Transmission Lines and Distribution (T&D)

o Asset Structure alternatives. The structure will be finalized during the Definition Phase.

o Build a prototype of the Asset structure for Transmission Lines and Distribution mapped in existing Assets in the GIS application

  • Include the mapping of some of the fields between GIS and SAP and how the assets will be linked (e.g. using the System ID)
  • Work with the BC Hydro SAP EHSM and SAP EAM consultants to prototype SAP EHSM locations with sample Hazards with a link to the SAP EAM Maintenance Work Orders
  • Link between the SAP EHSM Hazards and BC Hydro’s custom Zone Awareness GIS Tool

–        Interfaces

o GIS, SAP (Assets and Hazards), Zone Awareness – high level direction in terms of the following criteria and other important criteria:

  • Single direction or bi-directional
  • Batch, Real Time
  • Frequency
  • How will data clean up on the GIS application be propagated through the other applications

 

– Data accuracy of GIS

o Accuracy and key issues if any

  • On-going clean ups and replication via the interface (How will data clean up on the GIS application be propagated through the other applications) – Enhancements

o Identify major required enhancements (e.g. custom fields requirements in SAP) – Demo or walkthrough of selected Asset Management and Hazard Registry scenarios

o New Assets for Design

o Pole Replacement (old pole and new pole)

o Update of Asset (e.g. update attributes, corrections)

o New Locations and new Hazards and impact to Work Management and Zone Awareness

– High level understanding of the path from our current GIS (GE Smallworld) to a potentially new GIS and any changes it will require

Position Qualifications:
  • Direct and relevant experience and qualifications to the Scope of Work
  • Availability to perform the work within the timeframes stipulated.
  • A minimum of 10 years demonstrable experience as an SAP EAM Linear Assets Consultant, on large technology projects – consultants are required to have in depth knowledge and proven expertise in one or more of the key areas listed under Scope of Work.
  • SAP Plant Maintenance and Linear Assets experience
  • Experience in designing and configuring Asset Hierarchy in the Utilities environment, specifically Linear Assets
  • Integration experience between SAP EAM and EHSM and GE Smallworld
  • Experience with GIS (GE Smallworld) and GIS (ESRI) will be an asset
  • BC Hydro experience will be considered an asset.

 

Typical Background and Experience:

  • Bachelor Degree in Computer Science, engineering or equivalent.
  • Understanding of the Utilities industry including the Generation and T&D operations is an asset.
  • Results focused.
  • Business acumen to ensure project scope will achieve business benefits.
  • Excellent analytical and problem solving skills with the ability to keep the big picture in perspective.
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills for both technical and business audiences.

  • Solid understanding of BC Hydro’s business and technology landscape is an asset.
  • Understanding of BC Hydro’s Project Delivery Methodology (ITDSP) is desirable.
